THE REASON WHY I STARTED THIS BLOG
After having written back-to-back articles on various recommended suppliers (see here for food carts and here for photographers), I feel like it is now time to come back to the reason why I started this blog in the first place: to share the parties of my wonderful clients.
And this one is a real winner – the theme is Super Mario Brothers!
THE LAZY DAD THEORY
After many years in the business, I think I stumbled upon a revelation: the only chance the dad somehow gets involved in the styling of their kid’s party is when their child is a boy. That way, they can choose a theme that they would have enjoyed had they been a kid themselves (or even an adult!).
Like say, a game they loved playing back in the days of SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System).

Character-driven parties are extremely difficult to pull off, because each character theme is unique and therefore something that you would have to pull off from scratch. The fastest route to any character party is thru computer graphics work and have the printers run it through their machines and…voila! Those who know me know that I just can’t stand the look of an incomplete / bare ceiling. Here’s what the Party Magic team and I did:
The ceiling was adorned by a combination of lanterns, bunting flags, golden coins, stars, and yes, that queer-looking yellow creature riding a cloud and throwing spikes on the ground:
I saved you some time now though and googled this character myself: his name is Lakitu, and he’s a Koopa (a tortoise-like race of creatures found all over the Mario Brothers universe).
Now, on to the other elements: [Read more…]
